Sibset of the Week: The Hanovers

Electress Sophia of Hanover, from wikipedia

You may not know this, but count Electress Sophia of Hanover as the mother of the British Royal family. To be on the line of succession to the British throne, one must be descended from Electress Sophia, which makes her a rather important figure in British Royalty. Here in this post, we’re looking at her offspring:

George Louis (later King George I of England)

Freidrich Augustus

Maximilian Wilhelm

Sophia Charlotte

Karl Philipp

Christian Heinrich

Ernest Augustus

  1. I have a secret fascination for the names and genealogies of European royalty (it’s only secret because nobody cares to listen, not because I derive some freakish prurient excitement from it).

After a while, you start thinking, “Yeah maybe, I’m sure everyone would totally come around if I called my children Rudolph Adolphus and Wolfgang Augustus. And Rudy and Wolfy would be super popular with the other kids and stuff”.

That’s when you have to tell yourself, Put DOWN the encyclopedia and step AWAY!!!!

What only two names, rather than four? Poor kids have been short-changed šŸ˜‰

    • I’m not completely sure, but I think it was the children of Queen Victoria who were given four names. She only had two names herself, and the children of her predecessor seem to have been given three names.
